I love love love this toothpaste.
It tastes like you dipped your toothbrush in baking soda, then squeezed a fresh lemon over the top.
And that’s because that is pretty much the ingredient list on this pure, organic, high quality toothpaste.
I love brushing with baking soda… washing your oral muscosa and teeth with baking soda is a fabulous way to re-set your mouth’s pH every morning and every evening… it is gentle on your teeth and neutralizing for breath, too.
I am also a big fan of just sprinkling your toothbrush with baking soda and brushing, so for folks on a strict budget, this is probably my #1 recommendation for toothpaste.
And brushing without toothpaste is fine as well. (Why am I comfortable with using no toothpaste at all? I blog about that here.)
But if you want to step it up a notch, make brushing your mouth feel like a spa treatment and a treat, you’ll want to look at Miessence’s toothpaste line. They have mint and lemon flavors… I am addicted to the lemon one.
I asked Alison to give us some info on the toothpaste, and she gives a few links to check out below and highlights a fabulous deal for you, Buy 1 Get 1 Free on my favorite toothpaste EVAH!!!!

Great deal for any Heartsong readers who want to give it a try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much Alison, for another fabulous product and a great deal. If you missed it, I highlight Miessence perfumes here and was so stinkin’ excited to get a bottle of my favorite perfume (Brave) for Mother’s Day a few weekends ago. It was the perfect gift. I have it on right now!
Here are some other toothpastes that we love. Because the Miessence toothpastes taste so salty and baking-soda-ey… my daughter doesn’ t like it. And my son doesn’t use any toothpastes at all. So what toothpaste do I get for my daughter?
Her favs are:
Burts Bees Fluoride Free Berry
and we both use Tom’s of Maine Fluoride Free Sensitive Tooth toothpaste as well… me because I have one tooth that is sensitive and her because it is minty and refreshing without being a harsh, burning mint flavor. Great for kids who like just a touch of mint but not a *grown up* mint toothpaste.
The other thing I wanted to mention is for folks who get a coated tongue or tonsil stones.
As horrible as it is to admit, I have always always had to fight against a white tongue. The minute I eat something sweet… with honey or sugar or anything milky/creamy… the bacteria on my tongue go crazy and have a party.
I have maintained my tongue with daily brushing and that alone is amazing. But… this one spray has changed my life! Taken me from daily frustration with brushing my tongue to preventing the problem in the first place… Dr. Katz Fresh Breath Throat Spray. Hallelujah!!!
It has a long nozzle, and I just angle to spray directly on my tonsils. One spray every morning on my tonsils has literally nipped the bacterial problem/white tongue struggle in the bud. It’s gone. I am so thankful for this product that I went from considering a tonsilectomy to feeling completely normal. It works so well I was scared to look at the ingredient list, but what I found was awesome. Baking soda, zinc, tea tree oil… awesome! No SLS, alcohol, or saccharine.
Dr. Katz has lots of other products, and I’ve tried them, but the one thing I keep going back to is this throat spray. He does offer a fluoride free toothpaste, but Miessence’s Lemon Toothpaste beats the pants off of it. Even just straight baking soda would, in my book, be just as good, possibly better.
I don’t think you need all of the *packages* that Dr. Katz pushes on his website. Still, I just had to mention this throat spray, for readers who, like me, tend to get food stuck on their tonsils or a coating on their tongue, and didn’t know there was a way to directly cleanse the tonsils. This spray does.
Okay, those are my oral hygiene favs. Any to add? What do you all like to use? Let me know! xoxo

Thank you so very much Dr. Laura! We hope Heartsong readers give us a try.
Wanted to mention that if readers would like to try the toothpastes for kids, the Anise flavor is the most “sweet”. Although I have a two year old who loves the Lemon.
Awesome… we haven’t tried the Anise yet… looking forward to it the next time we order! xoxo
Thank you for this post! I looked into their products back when you posted about their fragrances, and ended up ordering their hair conditioner. I love it, and the shipping was lightning fast! I’m looking forward to trying the lemon toothpaste. I’ve been using fluoride-free toothpaste for some time (Burt’s Bees or Tom’s of Maine usually), but the lemon flavor just sounds amazing so I will have to give it a try. Thank you Alison for the coupons as well!
Thanks Laura! I love Miessence mint and lemon toothpaste too (Alison-dare I say it actually reminds me just a little bit of a Margarita since the salty taste from the baking soda is like the salt on the edge of the glass mixed with lemon -YUMMY!LOL:) I’ll have to try the Anise next and see if my boys will like it. Right now they will only use the Spry kids’ tooth gel with Xylitol and their adult mint toothpaste is great too! They have a selection of products which you can see here. http://www.xlear.com/spry.aspx.
My son went to the dentist yesterday and they sent him home with Colgate Sponge Bob toothpaste. The ingredients include such lovely things as artificial bright BLUE coloring, fluoride (of course) and aspartame! Really? YUCK!!! Needless to say, they are NOT using that! !LOL:) Thanks for all the great info!:)
Thank you so much for the additional recommendations on kids toothpaste… perfect! Good to know! xoxo
I also love the products from this company and Alison is a wonderful women to deal with, I wish it would be a little bit more inexpensive, because I would love to try all their products, each one of them sounds like a dream in my ears…lol – (please forgive me Alison)…….but I didn’t know that baking soda will whiten your teeth a bit…..that’s just great, because I am using it without knowing…
And again so funny, I also suffer from the tongue problem you just bloqed about….I also do the scrapping and additional the oil drawing, before I eat or drink anything in morning……I don’t want to go into detail an bore people, but it is said the oil will take up all the bacteria’s and after 5 min. you just get rid of them…..
I agree! It is definitely a “splurge” brand… the products are so pure and make you feel spoiled… but absolutely I think just a box of plain old baking soda would be just as good and last forever at about $1!!! xoxo
I was told by several doctors that the white tongue problem was due to excess yeast (of which woman tend to have more of a problem with -esp. Candida yeast which is a baddy!LOL:) The typical American diet has too many carbs and sugar which feed yeast and make you crave more of the same. Try probiotics and you might find this helps a lot. They are great for you anyway. Stay away from drugs like Nystatin which kill yeast but you can have a nasty “die off” reaction and feel worse for a while. Consult your local health food store or holistic practitioner for natural options and see if that works. I think there are some natural toothpastes which contain probiotics as well. If you Google “symptoms of excess yeast” or something like that, you might find some useful info. Just a suggestion so I hope it helps….:)
So true Heather… yeast is often a cause. Probiotics are a great idea, as is avoiding sugar/simple carbs… thank you so much for the additional info! xoxo
Heather I looked long into this yeast thing…..plus I take high amounts of probiotics since a long time…….and I don’t eat much refined carb’s since I don’t tolerate them very well…..(unfortunately…lol) ….my research has taught me also to change probiotics once in a while…….as well as that it is “normal” to have a certain amount of yeast in your intestines, as long as the good guys are balancing everything out….. My experience is that some “people” will have always a bit of a problem with the white tongue, although their yeast is under control…….for this group Laura’s advice and the oil drawing is a great help.
Lets all go brush our teeth and then have a margarita as a reward! Thanks for the info Dr. Laura. Wonder if it would hurt your teeth if you mixed a bit of lemon juice in the baking soda. Guess it would go bad quickly. Or maybe put some mint leaves in the baking soda? Or maybe just buy Alison
Well not buy Alison – that would be a splurge – but perhaps a tube of toothpaste would be affordable.
I love it, I love it! The lemon toothpaste I bought from Allison is amazing and the free one I gave to Michael and he likes it alot!
Also I am using the Skin Perfector and I am on my 2nd bottle! What a splurge but really worth it.
