Painting the Energy of The Heart

Posted

Since this is Heart Health Month, it’s the perfect time to show you a little behind-the-scenes of a painting series I just finished!

Step 1: sketch the words and images of each chakra onto a canvas with pencil, then trace with black ink.

First I sketched the words and images of each chakra onto a canvas with pencil, then trace with black ink.

I thought it would be fun to show you all the different layers of paint that went into the final painting.

I generally get images or ideas of what I want to paint as I lay in bed at night inviting sleep in.

One night I felt overcome with the desire to capture healing images of each chakra, so I spent a few weeks honing in on the words I felt activates the energy of each chakra best and doodling ideas all over a sketchpad.

Once I had:

  • the words that evoked each chakra best

  • a healing affirmation that invited an increase in the energy flow through that particular chakra

  • and a lovely goddess to illustrate the flow of energy out of that chakra…

I was ready to begin!  So let’s go:

Step #2: Paint the background base color. For the heart chakra, this is a gorgeous green!

I painted in the background base color for each chakra. For the heart chakra painting, this was a gorgeous green color!

Step #3: Add some rays of energy coming out of the heart area with lighter green paint.

Then I added some rays of energy coming out with lighter green paint.

Step #4 (and 5 & 6...): paint additional layers light radiating from the heart using various shades of green and white.

I emphasized this energy flow by using white and green paints in additional layers.

Once the background was complete, I went over the painting with some gesso where I wanted to add in skin tones.

Once the background was complete, I went over the painting with some gesso where I wanted to add in skin tones…

Begin to fill in background skin tones...

.. and begin to fill in these areas.

Repeat again and again on different canvases... one for each of the 7 chakras!

At that point I repeated this process again and again on different canvases… one for each of the 7 chakras!

Fill in dress background color...

Then on to fill in dress background color…

Fill in hair background color and foreground details on the dress and skin.

… and fill in hair background color and foreground details on the dress and skin. (This was late at night with artificial lighting so the photo has a different hue cast on it… sorry for the inconsistency in lighting!)

Add shading and details to skin, face and hair!

Then I played around with adding different details to skin, face and hair and highlighting & shading them in.

Add energy swirling out into the foreground of the painting using white and green inks and paint...

The next step was to add energy swirling out from the chakra into the foreground of the painting using white and green inks and paint…

... finally use black paint to fill in words and white paint as an accent.

… then finally using black paint to fill in the healing words!

Repeat process on all 7 canvases!!!

Repeat process on all 7 canvases!!!

The end result is a collection of artwork designed to increase the healing energy flow through any chakra you choose!

The end result is a collection of artwork designed to increase the healing energy flow through any chakra you choose!

Finally!  All 7 are done!

This process took me about 3 weeks of daily painting and a few weeks of dreaming/prep before I ever picked up a paintbrush.

I hope you love these healing goddesses and can feel the energy flow as you connect:

  • visually with the energy of colors

  • intellectually as you read the words

  • and emotionally as you speak the affirmations out loud and really access the healing chakra energy of each particular chakra.

Thank you for taking a look behind the scenes with me!  To see each painting in detail you can find them here!

P.S. — The reason I painted these was to create a unique healing kit that patients could use at home to help increase the healing energy flow of their own chakras!

Combining all the info from the various chakra articles I’ve written into one ebook, I’ve also created a chakra quiz so that you can identify which of your chakras need a little healing boost.

You can pick a chakra to work on and use the included healing artwork to connect to this energy flow and stimulate your own chakra balancing.

Filled with fun and simple ideas for ways that you tend to your own chakra needs, as well as lots of patient examples from my own medical practice, you can find out more about my new Chakra Healing Kit  here!

    Hi Dr. Laura,

I just came across your website, I thought by accident. I love your painting and the emotions they evoked in me, i.e., excitement, curiosity and a sense of familiarity. Tears streamed down my face and I literally had to scroll pass them to emotionally gather myself. I viewed them again just to check myself and again the emotions flowed. Thank you for sharing!!!!!!! Jacqueline
