We don’t see things as they are.
We see things as we are.
– Anais Nin
Okay, so this is my fourth favorite quote in the world. One I am still just barely beginning to grasp the enormous truth of, as I make my way through this life seeing it echo again and again and again. Both in my own self and in others.
It’s just so beautiful and so true, in everything. In the way I see that people who truly feel good see so much good in others. In the way that every conflict I’ve ever been in reflects my own inner conflicts. In the way that what I need to see and what I need to learn always comes up into a head in my own life.
In the way that when I remain centered I no longer take other people’s version of their “truth” personally… because it’s not about me. It’s about them. And that is okay!
Another version of this quote is Byron Katie’s saying that “it’s none of my business what anyone else thinks of me.” So true! I love that. It reminds me to stay in my own business… that what comes up for other people is their own truth, whether it is about me or not. I love it.
It also reminds me that what comes up for me is my own projection… “truth” being completely subjective.
And I ultimately really enjoy the release I feel when I remember that there is no truth, only each of us making our way, as best we know how, towards love.
Okay, so for this fabbo quote I’ve doodled a woman who stands looking out over her world… each projection of energy that she emanates from here effects and colors the world she sees around her. It’s not a good or a bad thing… it is her perspective.
Each person emanates an aura that colors the world around him or her… it is palpable and you can feel it.
No two people can see the same thing, it’s just not possible, because no two people affect the world around them in quite the same way. Just by witnessing something, we change it with our energy.
So, knowing that truth, lets just ENJOY the energy we emit!
Let’s vibrate out to the world exactly what we want to see… whether that be fun, love, passion, creativity, peace, joy, wisdom, insight, compassion, caring, empathy, silliness, tenderness, strength… whatever we want to see, it starts with us.
I get goosebumps whenever I hear Michael Jackson’s song “Man In The Mirror,” does anyone else? Love that song, and in never fails to remind me that any change I wish to see MUST start with me first, or it ain’t gonna happen.
I appreciate all the many, many, many (did I mention MANY?) opportunities that come up for me to practice this.
I need a whole lot of practice remembering that everyone is looking at their own version of “the truth,” and that no ones version is any better or worse then anybody elses.
I’m getting a whole lot of reminders of this, and I’ve of course got a whole lot more learning to do. But turning my challenges into opportunities to practice what I want to see has been very very rewarding so far, and I’m enjoying the journey as I get into the swing of it.
xoxo

All you have said is straight to the point; we all have our own perspectives of the same thing…we all are so unique, and yet, still cut from the same cloth…the Tapestry of God are we all, and yet each of us has our own hue of the same color we are looking at, timber of sound that we listen to, the way our souls hears the same music is so unique to each of us..how much He must love us to have created so much with such an EYE for difference of thought, appreciation, talents, that we all have…different, and yet, the same because ALL is God, and God is Love..so, let us simply BE, and strive to be happy:) Thank you Doc for this wonderful post..we all need to be aware of all you said..it puts much thought into one’s “perspective” as we go about our daily lives:) Namaste, Juta

Beautiful post and splat. Thank you for sharing your heartsongs with us. As I see it, they are very special.
OOOOOOH!!!! LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!!!
Hi Laura! This is a beautiful quote and your artwork is amazing! Sometimes when we look at things through new eyes or through someone else’s eyes we get a new perspective and understanding – and a new sense of compassion and we learn that life is not all about us.
Kris
We just met today… in a roundabout way…. but Man in the Mirror has always been my absolute, ultimate, favorite Michael Jackson song.
I told you once and I will tell you again… not only does this song bring me to tears, but also when I stumbled upon your artwork. I have much to learn from you my new friend. You are truly an inspiration…. a priceless one at that. Over the next several days I plan to read everything here as my vision is worsening weekly that I can read only a bit at a time but I am lovin’ what I read for those few moments I get. Keep inspiring!
I LOVE THIS! I’ve been slammed with this exact lesson lately. It lightens the world for me and is so freeing. Thanks for introducing me to the quote!!
Another version of this quote is Byron Katie’s saying that “it’s none of my business what anyone else thinks of me.”
This quote is making me giggle all over myself. I can’t keep from grinning.
